Competitive Analysis

There is nothing new about protecting overhead doors. In fact, the very first protection device was conceived and patented by Louis J. Gorar in 1933, called a “Guard for Doorways”. Many other devices have appeared on the market over the years with various ways of protecting overhead doors from being damaged by moving objects. Today the demand for protection is greater than ever, due to the new lightweight insulated door panels and new high speed production schedules placed on warehouse employees. Ultimately, managers have seen a large increase in their maintenance budgets for the repair of their overhead doors.

The Breakaway Panel System produced by many of our competitors has been installed and used by many companies in the last few years. However, listed below are problems associated with this type of protection system.

1. There is a security problem. Their fix for this issue is they provide locking bars that must be latched after closing and if the locks are not unlocked at the beginning of the work day the door can be damaged if it is impacted.

2. Damage to the door can occur if you hit the door at hinge level.

3. Damage to the door can occur if you exceed the panel defection limits, approximately 10 inches.

4. If you hit the door you need to snap the panels back into the locks.

5. During high winds, the door can unlock itself if another door is opened.

6.
The panels do not stop or absorb any of the impact energy.

7.
This systems does not address any safety issues requested by OSHA.

The Steel Guard Systems that are available on the market today have some different problems.

1. Once you hit a piece of steel with the forces used in today’s work place, it will bend. Steel has little deflection properties, and repair to these types of devices is inevitable.

2.
Most of the systems on the market of this type require the operator to perform additional steps such as opening and closing the device.

3.
There is no protection for the door while it is in the open position.

Conclusion

defendadoor™ series overhead door protector has the ability to sustain an impact from most common warehouse items, and it does this by absorbing the impact and deflecting the energy. The most impressive feature about this device is that it returns to its original shape within minutes. The beauty of this device is that it really works in today’s hectic environment, and after installation, there is nothing for the customer to do; it’s justs that simple!
